Kenyan Double Victory at the 2025 Movistar Madrid Half Marathon with Record Participation

Today, the Movistar Madrid Half Marathon and the ProFuturo Race were held, bringing together 27,000 runners between the two events through the streets of central Madrid, setting a new record for participation.

In the sporting arena, the winners of the 21.097-kilometer race were Kenyans Emmy Jepkemoi Mutai and Levy Kibet Chematot. The men’s race was tightly contested until the final stretch, with a large group of African runners battling for the win. Levy Kibet emerged victorious with an excellent finishing time of 1:00:45, closely followed by fellow Kenyan Titus Kiprotich Kibet (1:00:48) and Tanzanian Daniel Sinda, who finished third in 1:01:04. The top Spanish finisher was Madrid’s Yago Rojo, showcasing his talent with a time of 1:04:11.

In the women’s category, Kenya’s Emmy Jepkemoi Mutai claimed victory with a time of 1:09:09, finishing nearly a minute ahead of Ethiopian Diniya Kedir Abaraya, who came in second. Nancy Sang, who was the favorite on paper, ultimately finished third. Madrid native Azucena Díaz was the first Spanish woman to cross the finish line on Paseo de Recoletos with a time of 1:16:55.

The 5K ProFuturo Race also took place today, running parallel to the Movistar Madrid Half Marathon. This charitable race was founded in 2016 with a clear mission: to run for education. Since then, it has taken over the streets of Madrid to celebrate a day full of sport and social commitment, aiming to contribute to the ProFuturo educational program and continue bringing the transformative power of education, innovation, and technology to children in every corner of the world.

Leire Castrejón (18:35) and Pedro Vega (15:27) were the winners of the ProFuturo Race in the women’s and men’s categories, respectively. The ProFuturo Race, one of the most popular and charitable events on the calendar, raised €19,100, which will be donated to the digital education program by Fundación Telefónica and Fundación “la Caixa.” The funds will help bridge the educational gap in remote and marginalized areas across Latin America, the Caribbean, Africa, and Asia. Paralympic athlete Lorenzo Albaladejo—widely regarded as Spain’s best sprinter with cerebral palsy—also completed the race.

The Movistar Madrid Half Marathon is the fastest half marathon in the city, distinguished with the "Road Race Label" by the international federation World Athletics, including it in their official road racing calendar. It was declared an "event of general interest for the city" by the Madrid City Council and is considered one of the most iconic and traditional races in the country.

The race is organized by Agrupación Deportiva Marathon, Atresmedia, and Sport Life Ibérica, with Movistar as the main sponsor and institutional support from the Madrid City Council and the Community of Madrid. Joma Sport is the technical sponsor. Additional collaborators include Garmin, AhorraMás, Rafaelhoteles, Alquiber, Deloitte, official train partner Renfe, Toyota Kuruma, Vitaldin Sport, Gourmet Latino, Oakberry, Toteemi, and Physiorelax.
