The Movistar Madrid Half Marathon Sells Out on Its 25th Anniversary, Breaking Participation Records
On March 22, 28,000 runners will take part in one of the most iconic events on the racing calendar.
The Movistar Madrid Medio Maratón has sold out all its entries just 30 days before race day. The quota of 28,000 race bibs was completed this Tuesday, consolidating the event as a benchmark on the national and European calendar and breaking its own participation record. Thus, on March 22, the Spanish capital will experience a symbolic and especially emotional day as it coincides with the event’s 25th anniversary.
With this massive response from runners, the Movistar Madrid Medio Maratón strengthens its position as one of the most sought-after races at present—an authentic running festival that offers the opportunity to race through the city streets over the 21.097-kilometer distance. This carefully managed growth in participation numbers reflects an exclusive opportunity to discover, stride by stride, one of the world’s most visited metropolitan cities.
For the second consecutive year, the course successfully introduced in 2025 will remain unchanged. It is a route that is both beautiful and demanding, offering runners a chance to explore Madrid’s urban landscape. The 28,000 registered participants will have the privilege of running through areas such as Paseo de la Castellana, the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium, Plaza de Castilla —with its unmistakable KIO Towers—, Puerta de Alcalá, Plaza de Callao, Gran Vía, the Edificio Telefónica, Puerta del Sol, the fountains of Fuente de Neptuno and Fuente de Cibeles, and Plaza de Colón, where the finish line will be located.
The Movistar Madrid Medio Maratón stands out for its ability to bring together runners of different levels and backgrounds in the same starting corral. Moreover, the festive and vibrant atmosphere along the course, with various entertainment points, makes the Madrid event more than just a sporting competition: it is a true celebration for running enthusiasts and an economic and tourism driver for the city.
Over this quarter century, the Movistar Madrid Medio Maratón has built a distinct identity that combines athletic challenge, tourist appeal, and a strong bond with the city. From its first edition in 2001 to the present day, the race has witnessed the evolution of running in Spain, growing in participation, quality, media projection, and social impact. Today, the event is undoubtedly part of Madrid’s sporting heritage and a meeting point for athletes from nearly one hundred countries worldwide.
With the “Sold Out” sign already displayed, the Movistar Madrid Medio Maratón enters the final stretch toward its 25th edition with the aim of delivering an unforgettable experience. In the coming days, it will unveil its official race T-shirt, finisher’s medal, and the special-edition running shoe designed by the Toledo-based brand Joma.
Now that registration is closed, the organizers of the Movistar Madrid Medio Maratón have established a waiting list in case of withdrawals among the 28,000 participants who have secured their bib to run the best 21 kilometers in Madrid on March 22.
